It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Randell Du Bourg (Alston 1957 | Sixth Form 1958), a proud member of the Old Johannian Association, who matriculated in 1957.
Doug went on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant, earning his degree from the University of the Witwatersrand. Beyond his professional achievements, Doug was a man of many passions. He was a long-standing member of both the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club, where he enjoyed his weekly Wednesday rounds, and the Country Club Johannesburg, where he played Saturday men’s and Sunday social tennis for many years. Doug also managed the Welsh Men’s Choir, known as the Men in Red, for many years — a role that brought him immense joy in the latter part of his life.
Doug’s ties to the Old Johannian community remained strong throughout his life. He was a dedicated member of the OJ Choir, a regular presence at Gaudy Day celebrations, a multiple winner of the Morison Abel Golf Day, and a proud singer in the Boar’s Head Carol. Many will fondly remember him on Gaudy Day, dressed in his black suit and wide-brimmed white hat.
A talented pianist, a devoted husband and father, and a true gentleman, Doug lived a life marked by integrity, loyalty, and unwavering school and community spirit.
He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
