Welcome to the September edition of College Classifieds. The College Classifieds is our digital publication that offers the St John's community the opportunity to advertise their wares and services with fellow Johannians.

Legendary cricket umpire, Harold “Dickie” Bird, passed away at his home in Yorkshire on 22 September 2025. One of the most respected umpires in cricket history, and recognised with an MBE in 1986 and an OBE in 2012 for his contribution to cricket and charity. A little-known fact about Bird was that he coached at St John’s College between 1973 and 1976.

Cameron Fullerton (Clayton 2019) took a big step forward in a hockey journey that hasn’t always been smooth sailing when he was included in the Senior Men’s High-Performance squad.

Trinity Term 2025 has been one of celebration, remembrance, and outstanding achievement. It is a time when the rhythm of College life is both reflective and vibrant, and this edition of College Life captures many of the moments that made this term so memorable.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Randell Du Bourg, a proud member of the Old Johannians, who matriculated in 1957 (Alston).

On the evenings of 9 and 10 July, 160 voices of the Chapel Choir, supported by an orchestra of 19 players, raised the roof with Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria.

On Saturday, 7 June, St John's College welcomed back generations of Old Johannians for a reimagined Gaudy Day, a celebration rooted in heritage and community spirit, combining the celebration with the Derby Day against St Alban's College.

The Rene England Auditorium was filled with warmth and old friendships on Friday, 6 June, as the Old Johannian Association hosted its annual dinner on the eve of Gaudy Day with special guest speaker Andisa Ntsubane (Nash 1993)

We look forward to welcoming our Old Johannian community back to St John's College for Gaudy Day on Saturday, 7 June, to reminisce, reconnect, and celebrate a shared love for St John’s.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jonathan "Jon" Tilley (Thomson 1951), who died peacefully at the age of 90, surrounded by his loving family.
