Welcome to the Parish of Houghton - located in the historic Crypt Chapel at St. John’s College, below the main Chapel.
We are a small but passionate group that constantly pursues growth in faith, intellectual honesty and spirituality. We follow the Eucharist as found in the Anglican Prayer Book. We would love to welcome you this Sunday at 09:00am.
Our Priest in Charge is Bishop Duncan Buchanan. He leads us in prayer, outreach and ministry. Our Music Director is Father Ian Stevens. He and our worship team, lead us in joyful song, accompanied by piano and guitar, and from time to time, flute, recorder, violin or saxophone – depending on the hymns chosen and musicians available.
Duncan preaches words of encouragement, with skilful interpretation of the gospel and supporting anecdotes. His knowledge, based on years of teaching at St. Paul’s Theological College in Grahamstown, where he was rector; his experience, enhanced by years as Bishop; his passion for Christ, which remains alive every second of his day and his intimate knowledge of the Old Testament makes each and every service inspiring.
After the service, a scrumptious tea is provided – egg sandwiches are the normal favourite; biscuits and cake are a close second! This time also provides an opportunity to get to know fellow members of the Parish.
